Senior Integrated Project
Kalamazoo College requires all students to complete a Senior Integrated Project (SIP) as a graduation requirement. Though it is not required, many students choose to pursue the SIP in their major. For SIPs completed in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the SIP usually consists of a laboratory research project done under the supervision of a research scientist, which is then described in a written undergraduate thesis as well as in an oral presentation in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Symposium.
The SIP research in chemistry is typically done in the summer following the junior year, with completion of the written thesis and oral presentation during the Senior year. The Fall term of the junior year is a common time to start applying for research opportunities, as applications are often due between December and March. Additional details for students who wish to pursue a SIP in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry are available on Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry SIP Moodle site.
